With 251 recorded fatalities in 2024, the necessity of addressing this issue becomes paramount, although the specific number of neurodiverse individuals among the casualties remains undisclosed.
When faced with a fire incident, it is crucial for the fire service to understand how to engage and communicate with autistic individuals, as well as comprehend their potential reactions and communication styles. This essential training is best imparted by providing insights into their world, a method most aptly demonstrated through the home version of the Autism Reality Experience (ARE). Developed in collaboration with Bedfordshire Fire Service, this immersive training experience prompts profound reflections on the unique challenges faced by the neurodiverse community in fire-related scenarios.
